  1. My experiences with the Paypal buyer protection is that it sucks. Last month I bought three toner cartridges for my HP3500 color laser.

They cost me $300 when I got them they were refurbished and not HP cartridges. This would not have bothered me so much if they had actually worked. The smart chips were not reset and the printer would not print.

The sellers auctions stated that my satisfaction was 100% guaranteed but they would not send me a refund or answer emails.

So I did what everyone does when they are not happy with a purchase. I disputed it through paypal.

Keep in mind I am also a seller with a 13,500 100% positive feedback rating and two negatives from nonpaying bidders. I am well aware of how fast Paypal yanks money out of your account when someone complains.

Paypal made me jump through some of the silliest hoops I have ever experienced.

First even though the seller had put 100% satisfaction guaranteed in the auction. I had to prove to Papal the cartridges were defective.

I had to find a certified printer repair center that would verify the cartridges were defective. I called 17 places before I found one that would do it.

I had to lug a 80 lb printed on a two hour drive and wait while the repair center confirmed the cartridges were defective.

They charged me $99.97 for this service. Seems they charge a flat printer repair fee no matter what’s wrong with it and no exceptions.

Yea it cost me $100 plus about five hours and a day off from work just so I could get back $300.

Did I mention the whole process took six weeks. After faxing back the work order I had to wait until Paypal received confirmation from UPS that the return I had to pay shipping costs for was delivered.

Seems Paypal is very busy and can’t be rushed. They seem to have perfected the part of taking money back. That takes about 3 seconds. The buyer protection returning part takes six weeks or sometimes more if your lucks.

With all of its flaws Paypal is not the worst. I had a traditional merchant account company keep $60,000 of my money because they found out I was closing my account to go with another company (my bank) shame on me.

That took eight months and three trips to court before they would cut me a check.
